Material Editor Tips and Tricks
This page contains some common tips and tricks that will help you use the Material Editor more efficiently.
Commonly Used Shortcuts
Node Preview
Press P
on the keyboard to open the Node preview
Change View Modes
Press the up and down arrow keys to change the view mode of the node
Select Connected Nodes
Press the left arrow key
on the keyboard to select nodes connected to the left of the current node.
Press the right arrow key
on the keyboard to select nodes connected to the right of the current node.
Duplicate Selected Nodes
Press Cmd + D
on the Mac or Ctrl + D
on Windows to duplicate the selected nodes.
You can also do this by holding Space
on the keyboard and dragging nodes.
Delete Selected Nodes
Press the Delete
key on Mac or Backspace
key on Windows to delete the selected node.
Delete Selected Nodes with Auto-Reconnect
Press Shift + Delete/backspace
to delete the selected node while connecting the previous and following node.
Show Graph in Full Window
Press F
on the keyboard to fullscreen the entire graph.
Create Sub-graph
Select nodes and press Cmd + G
on Mac or Ctrl + G
on Windows to create a sub-graph.
Using Shift
In many cases, you can use Shift on the keyboard to perform additional functions.
Create Nodes from Input/Output Ports
Dragging a connection from a port and ending it in empty space will bring up the Add Node menu automatically.
Using Comments
Select a group of nodes, then use the right click menu to create helpful comment groups. You can also use Cmd + B
on Mac or Ctrl + B
on Windows.
Using Passthrough
Click on a connection line to create a passthrough node.
